Review of Redmi 4
Xiaomi Redmi 4 is a company new budget phone which has a starting price at 7,000 ₹.I have purchased 3GB+32GB model which is priced at 9,000₹ in India. As out of the box, the things I got with this phone are Instruction manual, Sim ejector tool, charger with the USB type B cable and the Redmi 4 phone. So moving on to the specs, the phone is powered by the Octa-core Snapdragon 435 processor which is clocked to 1.4 GHz max,for clicking the selfie the phone have 5 MP camera and the rare facing camera is of 13 MP with flash, both the front and rear facing camera are capable to take the 1080p Videos at 30fps J.The screen size of the phone is 5-inch HD (720x1280) 720p IPS display with 2.5D curved-edge glass.Basically, there are three storage variants one with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage; one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and last one has 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage.I have a model with 3GB +32GB.The phone has Finger Print sensor which is at the rear back in the perfect place so you don’t face any trouble to place a finger on it.The notification light is below the home button. The only thing I don’t like in the phone is the hybrid sim slot, which means either you can use dual sim or you can use the single sim with a memory card as the memory card can be expanded up to 128GB. The Redmi 4 will also support 4G and VoLTE along with other connectivity options. When two SIM cards are used, only the first sim one will allow 4G calls and data while the secondary SIM falls back to 2G calls only. The out of the box phone runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, with Xiaomi's MIUI 8.2 after that you can update it to the new Android Nougat 7.1.2 with MIUI 9.0 skin.
First Impression :
Picking up the phone for the first time feels premium as the phone has all metal black on the back side which makes it slippery too so, putting a case on it won't be a bad idea.First time booting the phone is similar to any other android device where you need to set up all the details like wifi, account details, location setting etc…After this, you can see home screen of the phone as the phone runs on MiUi which is pretty beneficial as the phone comes with the preloaded apps like Music, Mi Picks, Mi Community, News, Security, Notes, Recorder, and Weather. There are also some pre-installed third-party apps including Amazon, PhonePe Wallet, Flipkart, Facebook, and SwiftKey. As the phone have MIUI which have some amazing software features to provide like Dual Mode which will let you use same type apps with multiple accounts ,Quick Ball which will give you the small ball on the home screen so you can assign multiple features to the ball as locking the screen, cleaning the ram, capturing the screenshot this feature is pretty useful on the daily basis. The one thing which surprises me is that MiUi skin is not that heavy on the phone so you don’t feel any lag when you are doing multitasking on the phone.
Some of the pics I have taken of the phones : -
Camera
The back camera on the phone is 13 Mp which takes pretty decent photos in the daylight the camera app UI is clean you will get one tap to HDR mode on the top right and on the top left you can use flash, On the bottom left you can use see different types of filters which are pretty hand to use feature and on the bottom right you get the camera switching button to switch between front facing and back facing. The focusing on the camera is pretty fast as I try to focus on different types of objects and it actually focused very fast. The phone can record video in 720 p and 1080p which are of decent quality, Selfies from the phone is also of good quality as the camera app use some image enhancements to make your image look much better, for this reason, you can see that sometimes it take a little bit of time to process the image. Overall it won't be an issue as this will be improved in the camera app future updates.
Performance: -
Moving on to the performance the phone can handle day to day apps very easily as we tried to run multiple apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and snapchat the switching between apps is pretty quick, I don’t even notice a single lag in switching multiple apps on the phone. It can handle the game like Asphalt 8, Subway Surfer, Sniper Elite and Cut the rope while playing the games for the long time I didn’t feel any heating issue on the phone. As the phone has 3GB of RAM you can only utilize the 1.2GB which will be free to access the other apps. The Battery life of the phone is, you can run it for a day as I have tested with different apps which are running in the background like Facebook, YouTube and Instagram the phone lasted for a day, you can even get some more out form battery by selecting the battery saver mode in it.The Speaker on the phone is on the bottom as it gives a good sound output, the ringtone is audible in the crowded places.
The Screen of the phone has 5-inch IPS display with decent viewing angles, you can read the text in direct sunlight as the screen is bright enough in direct sunlight so you won't find any problem reading the text on the screen. There is reading mode too which will help you to change the color of the screen so in night reading test on the phone won't stress your eyes, there is an option too to change the color and saturation of the screen.
So the question is does it worth it, yes it is if you are looking for the decent budget phone which has good build quality, solid battery life, and good performance then this thing is to build for you personally the things which I don’t like from my side are the Average Camera and Hybrid Sim Slot, as in the budget phone you can’t get all the thing but still it is one of the best in the series.
